I Hate My MIL
Age: 27       MIL Age: 56

I still can't believe that all this really happened!

Some bad gifts I have received are the "free with purchase" gifts that MIL gives to me for Christmas.  If she does actually buy something, it's always something I'm not interested in, e.g. costume jewelry (the ugliest stuff in the world).  I once received a huge pale pink sun dress with a large turtle on the front.  When I didn't put it on when we were going out for dinner that night, MIL was pissed.  She kept at me about not wearing the "beautiful" dress she had given me

My FIL thinks that he is the smartest man alive.  He came over to visit, and asked me if I was actually doing anything useful - I'm a SAHM.  I told him that I was tutoring a 6 year old boy who was going through kindergarten for the 3rd time.  FIL started telling me how stupid I am (in my own home) because, "How can a 6 year old be in kindergarten 3 times?"  He wouldn't even let me finish.  He just went on and on, and then he stormed out, while saying that I'm the dumbest person alive.

The 6 year old failed the first time.  This year, he is in 2 kindergarten classes, and he is failing both.

It's Christmas time again, and MIL is at IT again.  DH went over to visit (by himself, of course) and MIL announced that Christmas would be held at his sister's place this year.  She lives 12 hours away.  Her instructions were this:  We drive the 12 hours to SIL's house.  I drop off my family, and I leave.  Then, 4 days later, I can pick up my family, turn around, and drive them home.  It feels so nice when they include me in things.

DH and I got married in the fall.  The ILs were very upset about our marriage, so they refused to be in most pictures.  That Christmas, DH wanted to give them an enlarged picture from our wedding, as they didn't have one (even though it was their only son's wedding).  I found one that I thought looked really good.  I had it enlarged and framed.  When they opened it at Christmas, they didn't say much, but they didn't argue or make remarks about it after.  A few months later, they went on their yearly vacation, and they asked if DH could go to the farm and feed the cats and dogs while they were gone.  I went with DH, and went inside their house to go look for the food.  I found the picture frame on a different picture (of MIL's two DDs).  And, yes, I know it was the frame I bought because I found our wedding photo laying bare on the coffee table, with a cup water ring on it!!  Thanks for welcoming me into your family.

We were at my DH's GM's house for Christmas, a few years ago.  Everyone was there, including a few people who were just friends.  They decided that they wanted to take a family picture, and DH's aunt shouted out that I should take the picture because I'm "not really family".  I couldn't believe it.  I just took the photo and kept my mouth shut.  Everyone made it into the picture except for me (even SIL's BF got to be in the photo).  I love how DHs family is always showing me that I am neither wanted nor welcome in their family.

DH is currently only working part time because the company that he works for shuts down for the summer.  We live in a big farming area, so they work when farming season is not around.  Anyway, my FIL said that he needed some work done on his farm, and that he would pay DH to come and do the work.  They worked out a wage and DH kept track of his hours.  FIL kept telling him that he would pay him next week.  This kept going on for a month.  Finally, DH told FIL that he wouldn't do any more work until FIL paid him the money he owed him.  MIL sent a money order in the mail, along with a note.  "We need to talk to the both of you."  DH called and he got a speech about how we need to get a hold of our finances, and that they can't be giving us money all the time.  WTF?  They made a deal with DH and promised to pay him for the work.  I can keep a handle on my own finances, but not when some moron promises to give DH a paycheck, then doesn't.  Cheapskate.

I was at my IL's last week.  When we go places, my DS gets so excited that he doesn't want to eat.  So, in order to get him to eat something, I gave him a granola bar.  Once DS walked out of the room, all I heard from FIL was what a bad mother I am for giving him this "cr@p".  It doesn't matter what I feed DS, it's always wrong in his eyes.  FYI:  FIL ate half a 9"x9" chocolate cake for dessert that same day.

I ended up having an emergency c-section when DS was born.  MIL called us up, while I was in the hospital, to yell at me about ruining her vacation.  Now she wants to come back to see what all the fuss was about.

When we told my ILs that I was pregnant, MIL and FIL showed up at our house a weel later with a present for me.  I opened it to find a number of books on raising kids.  I smiled and thanked them, only to have MIL say, "You need these, because you will surely screw up this kid."  All this because my parents are divorced.  Therefore, I don't know how to raise a kid.

The day after DS was born, my SIL called to talk to DH.  He said that he couldn't talk to her because he wanted to go to the hospital to be with me and our newborn son.  Her response, "I'm your sister.  I'm more important than that woman."  DH hung up on her and came to the hospital fuming.

We asked MIL to watch DS while we had an appointment to go to.  She fed DS old chicken, and we ended up in the hospital with food poisoning.  She said that it was my fault, because I take him to the malls where there are strangers.
