The first day I met my future MIL, I was warned.  She had made each previous GF cry within minutes.

The first question she asked me, after shaking my hand, was, "So, I hear your mom's an alcoholic."

My fiance and I bought our house last December.  We got all of our stuff moved in by December 15th.  FMIL called December 20th asking what we were serving for Christmas dinner.  Excuse me?

Turns out, she'd invited all of my fiance's family over.  When we told her we hadn't decorated, didn't have a tree, and hadn't even unpacked half the house yet, she flipped out.  She told us she assumed we would honor "tradition", and that holidays would now be held at our house.

I didn't know that something could be a tradition that hadn't happened yet.  She cried and fought for days about . . .

My FMIL is having a hard time handling our wedding.  Her other son likely won't marry, and she and I haven't really hit it off.

She called to tell us that she is wearing black to the ceremony.

She offered to cover the cost of the rehearsal dinner.  Then, two months before it was scheduled, she told FDH that she isn't a bank, and didn't want to do it anymore.  We never asked her to do it in the first place.  What could we say but, "Oh well."

She called my mom to invite her to the pre-wedding-reception reception that she is throwing at her house.  Hers is starting an hour before ours starts.  She is planning on serving the same food.  Won't it just be wonderful that people are full when they arrive ... not.

FMIL decided to hire her own photographer for our wedding.  We already have one hired who is bringing a second shooter.  It's against our contract to have another paid photographer for the same event.

We asked FMIL to cancel hers, and to leave her own camera at home for the ceremony.  She has a history of inappropriate picture taking (like candids at a funeral), and we thought it best if she left it behind.  Oh the storm that caused.  Suddenly, the wedding was ruined for her.

She told us that was the only joy she was going to get from that day.  My family is boring, she said, and she doesn't care about seeing her son get married if she can't photograph it herself.  Yikes!

FMIL was feeding our cat while we were away for a week.  She really likes cats, but our cat is afraid of strangers.  So, rather than say, "Oh well," and call it a day, she ransacked our house to find the cat.

We got home a week later to find everything pulled out, that had been stored under beds, and strewn across the floor.  Drawers and closets were rifled through, and everything else was in disarray.  I thought we'd been robbed.

When DH called to see what happened, he found out that she just really wanted to pet the kitty.  Well, dear FMIL, I really hope you enjoyed the adult toys and lacy nighties you went through as well.

Needless to say, . . .
