My SIL mentioned that someone
at her job admired her brother. My MIL's response was, "Maybe
she's interested in my son!" Being the DIL that I am I responded,
" Remember, he's married to me; the person who gave you two
grandchildren?" She answered, "So what! I never liked
you anyway."

A Coincidence!

Worst gift: I was pregnant
during the holiday season. My now ex-MIL bought me diet pills!!!
I was nine months pregnant, and she said that I had gained so much
weight (30lbs) that I would need to get all of it off if I wanted
to be considered pretty again!! I was never so insulted, and hurt
at the same time, ever in my life!!

MILs are people, too.
We love our DIL, but nothing we do is ever enough or appreciated.
We love our son very much, and would like her to be part of our
family. She hates our one daughter, who is very sweet and kind
and will do anything to help out. Her dad and mother are divorced.
We don't expect her to love us like her family, but it would be
nice if she did not treat us like nonentities. I would confront
the issues, but my DH doesn't want to. She is very well educated
and talented. Our son invited us to visit them at their cabin (which
is 1/2 ours) on Father's Day. She ignored us for the entire day.
ILs are people with feelings, too.
Signed - A MIL

Note: To better handle the volume of submissions - stories
and responses received will be posted as early as our resources will
allow. Responses to new stories will be accumulated, and then
posted, all at once, to the original story page at a later date (generally,
one set of responses will be posted per day).
