Worst gift:  My BF and I are just starting to talk marriage, but we have been together for about 2 years.  His mother is always making rude comments to me.  But, last Christmas I was so embarrassed.  She told me that my present didn't come in the mail yet.  Three weeks later, I got a blank card with a gift card in it.  A gift card?????  How does someone not have time to pick up a gift card before Christmas?  She drives me Nucking Futs!!!!  When can I stand up to her?  Do I need to wait until we are married, or do I just need to take it for the rest of my life?  HELP!!!  My BF sticks up for her all the time.  I don't want to upset him, either.

        Signed - MIL Nucking Futs!

Worst gift:  My tacky, redneck MIL never even gave us a wedding gift.  Oh, yes, and don't forget that she cried like a baby all through our engagement party, and through our wedding weekend.  And they weren't tears of joy.  Get a life, lady.  Your son is my DH now, and . . .

Per the poster's request, no responses collected.

My FIL has driven away all of his family members, and also my MIL's (they live on the same road, and have not spoken for over 15 years!!!).  This is the advice that he gave my four year old son.  "When you go to school, and some kid takes your toys, don't give the toys.  If necessary, beat up the other guy, and let them know what stuff you are made up of."  Believe me, he made the mistake of giving the advice in front of me (lucky me) because, for the first time in my 6 years of marriage, he got it back from me.

Signed - Not So Docile DIL

RESPONSE:  Not So Docile DIL
A not so docile DIL, who apparently wants to raise a docile son.  Your DIL will be posting on this site in 15 or 20 years.  Maybe FIL is a jerk, but he is right in this case.  Don't raise a wimp.

RESPONSE:  Not So Docile DIL
Your FIL may have many bad qualities, but there's a germ of truth in what he told your DS.  A kid has to learn to stand up for himself, or he will always be the victim of bullies.  Bullies pick on the weak, not the strong.  Now, of course, your FIL put it wrong - making the issue about toys, rather than self-defense.  But, he wasn't completely off track on this one issue.

Note:
To better handle the volume of submissions - stories and responses received will be posted as early as our resources will allow.  Responses to new stories will be accumulated, and then posted, all at once, to the original story page at a later date (generally, one set of responses will be posted per day).
