My BIL and SIL sent us a long video of their kids, family, new house, various family events, etc.  Included were two segments with the "contents" of their toilet.  I stopped the video before the end, so for all I know there was more.  The segments were not filmed by one of their kids, but by my BIL (I could tell because he narrated with descriptions of the "contents").

My MIL tells everyone that I control DH, yet she wants to name OUR son what SHE wants.  She decides who can come to DS's birthday party, and she told DH not to let me answer his phone because SHE didn't want me to answer it!!!!!  Am I the controlling one???  HELLO??  She told DH that he wasn't ALLOWED to marry me, or else he wouldn't be in the family anymore!!  He was a 31 year old man!!!!

Per the poster's request, no responses collected.

I just celebrated 5 years with my DF.  We were supposed to get married this past fall, on our anniversary date.  But, my DF's brother was murdered this past winter, so my DF postponed our wedding.  Five months later, I found out that the real reason for the postponement had nothing to do with his brother.  It was really because his mother and father told him not to marry me.

        Signed - Real Unreasonable Reason

RESPONSE:  Real Unreasonable Reason
And, that is exactly why you should not marry this "man".

RESPONSE:  Real Unreasonable Reason
I would really think twice about marrying this man if that's the way he lets himself be dictated to by his parents.

RESPONSE:  Real Unreasonable Reason
I hope that you are not with this person anymore.  His parents are horrible for telling him to dump you, but he is the bigger jerk for considering it.  Get rid of him, pronto!

RESPONSE:  Real Unreasonable Reason
Give him back the ring and enjoy life without someone else controlling you.  And, then, when you are ready, go find someone who actually WANTS to be with you.  Good luck.

RESPONSE:  Real Unreasonable Reason
You've been granted a lucky reprieve.  Drop the mama's boy *now*.  Do *not* marry this man.  You *will* regret it the rest of your life.

RESPONSE:  Real Unreasonable Reason
If you know for a fact that this was the real reason that he postponed the wedding, kick this dolt to the curb using metal-toed jackboots.

RESPONSE:  Real Unreasonable Reason
Actually, this doesn't seem completely unreasonable.  I would imagine MIL and FIL were not thinking very straight after their son was murdered.  I know that I wouldn't be.  Maybe your DH also wasn't ready to go and have a joyful, special day when he, too, was still reeling from the loss of his brother.  You've waited five years, surely it wouldn't hurt to wait a little longer until the first agonies of grief are past

RESPONSE:  Real Unreasonable Reason
If his parents told him not to marry you, and he "postponed" the wedding, it's time for you to pack your bags and walk away before you waste any more time on this loser.  He is a loser, no matter how you feel about him, or how much time you have invested in this relationship.  Cut your losses and move on.  Somewhere there is a man who will stand up for you.

RESPONSE:  Real Unreasonable Reason
You don't say whether you heard this direct from the parents or through a third party, so I'm taking the "real" reason with a grain of salt.  If you really believe that his parents object to you, get some premarital counseling with your DF to work through this BEFORE the wedding.  But, either way, cut these grieving parents some slack.  If one of my children were murdered, I certainly wouldn't be ready for a wedding in the family a few months later, either.

RESPONSE:  Real Unreasonable Reason
The fact that he listened to and obeyed his parents is what you should really be concerned about.  He obviously does not love and care about you all that much, or he would've told his parents to go to he!!.
