I have the worst MIL in the world.  But, thankfully, she just left on a plane.  And, she is, hopefully, far, far away.  She left without telling anyone, including her DH.  She just left us letters explaining that she filed for divorce, she hates her DH, and she hates me and my DH (her own son).  We ruined her life, and she never wants to see us again.  The kicker is that I'm 7 weeks away from having our 1st child.  She also is demanding that we pay her large amounts of "maintenance", and we pay off all the debt that she left behind.  She even insisted that we pay her lawyer's fees.  But, having this horrible wretch of a woman out of our lives might just be worth every penny.  She's so evil, and she hides behind her religion.  She is so horrible that after the Hurricane Katrina she said that the people of New Orleans deserved what they got because the city is full of homosexuals, and God was just washing away the evil.  How can anyone be so horrible?

Please help.  MIL is driving FDW and me apart.  Just last night, FDW was crying her eyes out because her mother said that she wants nothing more to do with her.  She told her, "Get lost," and, "Stay with his family if they are so good."  This is all because she has moved in with me and my parents just recently.  MIL is saying to FDW that my family and I are "taking you off me", as she puts it.  FDW and I have been together for nearly 3 years, and she is six months pregnant with our first baby.  It all started when we did not let FMIL go to the ultrasound scan with us.  We did not do this to be nasty.  We simply wanted it to be just us two, because it's our first baby.  But, MIL has been driving us crazy ever since.  FDW is very upset because every time that FMIL does not get her own way, she becomes nasty and tells FDW to stay away.  She seems to think that because FDW has moved in with us, we are taking her off her (this is certainly not the case).  The problem is that FDW loves her mother very much, and gets upset by her mother's hurtful comments.  But, I absolutely hate FMIL for what she does to her.  FMIL upsets FDW like this, and then, a few days later, asks her to borrow some money.  FDW rushes down there and lends her the money.  This causes FDW and me to argue a lot, because I tell FDW not to run around after her because of the way she treats her.  I love FDW very much, but she says that she wants her mother to be part of the baby's life, and I've told her that the baby needs a mother and father more than she needs her GM.  I fear that this is going to split us up, as I don't know how much more I can take.  FDW gets on well with my mother, and this also angers FMIL.  FMIL threatens to come to our house and "sort her out".

Worst gift:  Oh my god!  It was Christmas 2004, and I had decided to spend Christmas Day with my family, and then head north to be with my then BF's family.  So, I got to their house around noon and was ready to open presents.  The first one I opened was from his stepmother.  PJ's, way too big.  OK, so she's trying to tell me that I'm fat.  Nice, Merry Christmas and welcome to the family.  I wanted to cry like a little girl.  I kept my composure and went on opening - socks, shirts, and underwear!  Who in their right mind gives their son's GF underwear?  On top of all that, it was freaking big.  I'm talking the size of 2 pumpkins big!  I didn't say a word the rest of the weekend.
