MIL sat down to Christmas dinner with the whole family (my side and hers) just three weeks after our wedding.  As a generous, loving contribution she said to me, "DIL, I would just like to congratulate you on achieving every woman's dream of marrying a man superior to herself."  Stony silence at the table, followed by DH saying, "What is that supposed to mean?"  MIL explained it fully, making it worse with every word.  She ended with, "Well, it is just good to know that you married up, isn't it?"  That was three years ago, and things only got worse.

My MIL knows that I am desperately allergic to cats.  She has a big furry one, yet never seems to vacuum or clean up the tufts of fur around her house before I come for a visit.  I swear, she even rubs that cat in my pillow when she is making the beds.  The last time I visited her house I had a horrible allergic reaction, with headaches, itching, asthma and wheezing.  Even after she knew of my symptoms, she placed a cat fur covered pillow outside our bedroom and didn't move it.  I ended up sleeping on the couch, which ended up sending a preexisting back injury into spasms.  It was a nightmare.  As a result, DH and I decided to head home after only a couple of days.  The next night she called my husband, crying, telling him how much she disliked me and stating that I had ruined HER Christmas!

Worst gift:  My MIL actually gave me a girdle for Xmas, knowing full well that at her house we open gifts one at a time, and hold up what we got so all can see.  The funny thing is that my MIL is no skinny minnie herself, and could also use a girdle!

Signed - Sick And Tired Of It
