I just got married a year and a half ago.  All my new ILs live out of state, so I don't know them that well.  DH's parents had him very late in life.  His siblings are my parent's age.  MIL is the most wonderful person!  Yes, I said wonderful.  Her 80th Birthday is coming at the end of the month.  Her DD and her other DIL (DIL has been in the family for 33 years) called me a few days ago and asked me to make a scrap book for her MIL's birthday gift.  I would have only 2 weeks to do this!!  I sent them my ideas, and they shot them down and suggested that I do other stuff.  I can't believe that they would ask me, the newest member of the family, to do this, since I don't have much material or knowledge.  I am so ready to tell those women to go bug off!!!!!!!  Thankfully, I do love my MIL.

MIL told ME, several times, that she wished that her own mother would die soon so she would get her beautiful antique luxury car, a pearl necklace, and her new microwave.

Worst gift:  I received a package in the mail one day.  There was no return address, but it was postmarked from the town where MIL lived.  I opened the package to find three matted and framed, black and white, but tinted pictures of dead babies laid out in coffins.  There was no note or letter included in the package, just the three framed pictures.  I packed them back up and asked DH about them when he got home.  It turned out that the pictures were funeral pictures of three stillborn babies that my MIL had had with her first three husbands, circa 1943-1949.  When he asked her about sending the pictures to me, she stated that she just thought I would like to have them.  This has been typical of the "gifts" that I have received from my MIL over 32 years of marriage.
