MIL/FIL are nice people.
DH is an only child. I put up with her calling him every day
and coming in and taking over my house whenever they visit - cleaning,
straightening closets, drawers, etc. If I say that we need
this or that, they buy it. The give me outfits/books/toys
for new baby constantly (they have more than my mom and dad).
Both are first time GPs. Here's the problem: I take
my frustration out on my mom. I don't know how to handle this.
MIL can do exactly what my mom may do (i.e., read a gift baby card
I've received; ask a simple question to help, etc., and I yell at
my mom, but not my MIL). I tell my mom not to call me every
day, etc. She doesn't anyway. I thought that I was acquiescing
to MIL for my DH's sake, but now realize that I've created a difficult
situation. Now what to do? DH loves his mom, but she
still treats us as if we are "her" children. Any
suggestions to turn this around? I've really stabbed my mom
in the heart. How can I save both relationships?
