When my DH and I were planning our wedding, we decided that we would invite about 200 people.  I contacted my mother and father and told them that they had 40 seats, which they could fill however they liked.  Then I called my now MIL and told her and they had 40 seats to fill however they liked.  My DH and I had the remaining 120.  I also requested the lists of names and addresses.  I requested that they get back to me within 4 or 5 weeks so that I could start sending out invitations.  My mother and father prepared their list over the next couple of weeks and got it back to me, well within time.  My MIL, on the other hand, did not.  Seven WEEKS later she was still "working on it", AND complaining about having to get addresses.  I had to start sending out invitations and called her several times to tell her that it was really important that I get the list so that the first round of invitations could get out and there would still be time to invite other people if the first invitees could not make it.  TWO WEEKS after that she finally dropped the list off with my DH.  It had about 150 NAMES ON IT, a lot of them with stars next to the names.  AND, only about 1/6 of them had addresses.  I said, "What do the stars mean?" and he said, "I don't know."  He called her up and asked.  She said, "Oh, those are the people whom I already invited who can't make it."  It was around 110 people!!!!!  Need I finish this story???

When my DH and I were dating, I had to have all four wisdom teeth removed.  I went in for the procedure and then went to his house so that he could take care of me for the next day or two.  We were upstairs in his room, laying in his bed and watching TV, when his mom, who does NOT live in the house, marched through the door (WITHOUT EVEN KNOCKING).  I was still groggy from the procedure, but managed a barely audible "hello".  She said that she was in the area and stopped by to say hi.  She was nosing around the room when she noticed that there was a large bouquet of flowers sitting on the dresser.  She went over and smelled them.  Then she turned to my DH and asked, "Who are these for?"  He said, "For GF, since she had her teeth out today."  She frowned and said, "You never get your MOTHER any flowers," then turned around and walked out the door.

Worst gift:  Top this:  My mother and MOH put on a beautiful bridal shower for me at my parent's house.  My MIL showed up, in all her snobby glory, and presented me with my gifts.  Now, all of our family friends, and the family and friends of my DH gave me lingerie, lotions, house goods, candles, and other things that they knew I would like.  Basically, pretty things that made sense for ME and for a bridal shower.  She, on the other hand, presented me with a set of four pink plates and four margarita glasses that did not even match.  She has PLENTY of money (which she carries around in a $450 designer bag), and PLENTY of time on her hands (as she sits around all day and does nothing while her husband works his a$$ off), but I just bit my tongue and said, "Thank you for the 'thoughtful" gift, even though it appeared as though she grabbed the first thing that she spotted in the department store.  Well, it gets better.  The next day I was at a clearance store, to look for some frames for our new house.  I spotted the SAME PLATES AND MARGARITA GLASSES, and they were on SUPER clearance - like $3 for the plates and $1.50 each for the glasses.  I am POSITIVE that she got them there because I cannot imagine any other store on earth that would carry the same items.
