I've been married for 7 years and have always gotten along great with my ILs.  My MIL likes to pull guilt trips, but I've always been able to handle them.  She's very opinionated and can be overbearing, but I'm pretty easygoing and ignore her.  My own mom has recently been placed in a nursing home for dementia and my MIL is basically the only mother figure I still have.  She's very big on traditions and family, and I've encourage my DH to keep up those traditions with her, even at the expense of spending time with my own parents.  This past weekend my DH threw me a surprise 35th birthday party, which he had been planning for over 10 months.  Imagine my surprise and hurt when my ILs decided, 3 weeks ago, to go away for the weekend because they had a coupon for a hotel!  My DH is pissed, and I feel like it was a slap in the face!  They have never done anything like this before!  It came out of nowhere, and now I don't know what to do.  I feel like cutting them off forever.

I am not yet married, and I can just imagine what this will be like.  DF lives alone and, of course, I am seen as the woman of the house, as we will get married shortly.  MIL bought some meat for us and I put it in the freezer without taking it out of the package.  She came a day later and was scratching in the freezer, only to see that the meat was not unpacked yet.  She then asked me what kind of wife I will be.  Man, I was mad.

About 2 years ago we had to live with my MIL due to financial problems, and then we moved to a new city.  I would spend almost all day cleaning up after my two kids, doing dishes, sweeping, mopping (all tile floors), and whatever else needed to be done, all while running after a 1 and 2 year old!  She would come home and yell because the house wasn't clean.  She would say, "What the he!! did you do all day?  Sit on your @ss?"  Right.  Anyone with kids can tell you that didn't happen!  As soon as we moved out and we visited, her floors were so dirty that we couldn't take our shoes off.  The sink was always full of dishes, and the computer table and all the chairs were piled with cr@p!  THEN she got evicted from her apartment and she and my SIL and their huge dog and cat came to stay with us in a tiny, 2 bedroom apartment.  Do you think she helped clean or cook or anything?  NO.  She didn't even pick up after herself, let alone the dog, whom she knows I'm allergic to!!  She didn't even look for an apartment.  We moved, and therefor she had to find someone else to live with!

Signed - Thank Goodness We Moved!
