Please help me to understand this.  This is not about my BF's mother, but about my own.  My BF and I have been making plans, or trying to make plans, to move in together.  We keep arguing.  This weekend he came to visit me at my mother's house, where I am living temporarily, and we had a huge argument.  My mother knew that we were arguing, and stayed out of it.  But then, when he left to catch the train, she drove him to the train station and even took him to meet one of her friends, whom she has never taken me to meet.  They drove around for 30 minutes and chatted.  I knew this because he left, my mother came home, then left again, and I saw him in the passenger seat.  Irritated, I called my mother's car phone and she laughed it off.  Is it unreasonable of me to expect that my mother would first be sure that I'm okay and take my side, rather than pal around with my now ex-BF?  Why would she do that, and seem to enjoy it so much?

This is not funny.  When my DD was 12, my stupid MIL told her, and I am not making this up, that she despised and resented me, that my affection for DD was somehow inappropriate.  This from the coldest person whom I have ever met.

Worst gift:  When my baby was 1 month old, my birthday came around.  MIL gave me a gift - a novel written by some author whom she approved of.  When I read the back cover, it turned out to be a novel about a family with a new baby who discover that the child is being abused by a family friend.  Nice, eh?  Needless to say, it still hasn't been read.  Cow.
