Once, I told my MIL that my 4 year old son had a crush in school.  "Not the prettiest girl," I said, "but the smartest".  She said, "Just like his father."

My MIL began to dislike me 3 years BEFORE I married DH.  I called a truce with her and expressed really wanting to be "family" once before our wedding, and twice afterward.  However, she's always found a way to ruin that and go back to being evil.  This time she resorted to actually MAKING UP A LIE as to why she wants nothing to do with me.  During a visit to our home she insisted that I told my mother that she'd threatened me.  I was there and I know that this didn't happen.  DH was there and knows that this didn't happen.  Yet, she maintains her story.  She has also told many of DH's other family members this lie and they are distant because of it.  DH had a talk with her, but she will not budge from believing this lie!  I guess there's nothing that I can do.  I'll just have to deal with a tense relationship between me and my ILs forever.

So it started when DH and I met over the internet.  God forbid that should happen, MIL started talking about how I was probably one of those women who was going to drug him and take his kidney.  We got married, I was pregnant, and he was due to be stationed overseas.  Now DH had talked me into moving in with his mother and 5 sisters while he was away.  "They will love you, if I do," he said.  "They will be nice to you, they understand," he said.  It started with dear old MIL saying that I probably gave him AIDS because he got food poisoning before he left.  Then she acted nice to my face, but was telling him that I was evil, rotten and trying to take his money.  She talked him into getting a paternity test because I was acting questionable, just sitting back and taking everything in.  Mind you, I am very quiet by nature and it's hard to talk to people who constantly put you down.  She yelled at him when he gave me money, and told him that I deserved no help with my $500 phone bill that I acquired while talking to HIM.  She looked through my emails, regular mail, trash, room, and purse.  She did a background check and listened in on conversations.  Then, finally, when DH, baby and I moved away, not 2 months later she invited herself over.  She was short with me, but nice to my face.  When DH was around, she talked to me.  But, boy oh boy, when he wasn't here, she would not even look me in the eye.  Needless to say, she is not welcome in my house.

        Signed - Still Bitter
