Worst gift:  One year my MIL/FIL bestowed many gifts on my DS and DH.  We are talking thousands of dollars.  I received a card.  I know that it is not the amount spent, it is the thought that counts.  But in our family we do the "round about" gift opening.  One person passes out a gift to each person in the room, then we go around the room and each person opens the gift individually, while the others look on.  Imagine this going on for several hours, and after the first round I am not included.  Fortunately, my DH is very generous to me at our own "at home" gift exchange.  He buys me jewelry - the NICE stuff, and it eats his mother up.  I come to her house and sport it during the gift exchange.  I guess things even out.

Worst gift:  We have NEVER forgotten my ILs on birthdays, anniversaries, or other holidays, except for one year when they asked us NOT to send them gifts for Christmas because they were too broke to reciprocate.  Well, we honored their wishes.  At Christmas they called and asked us, "Where are our gifts?"  One time we were expecting them to come to our house for Christmas.  They were on the road in their motor home and said that they would be passing thru.  They never showed up, but called to ask us, "Where are our gifts?"

Worst gift:  My very materialistic, buy only the best for herself (and it must come off of the list that she provides ahead of time) MIL gave me a thigh exerciser for Christmas one year.  I was speechless, but managed to say thank you.  Later the next year I donated it to charity.  She now complains that I give away everything that she gives to me, since I gave this one item away.  I just politely walked out of the room.  HA!
