Long story short, my family and I went on vacation together.  DH couldn't make it (work obligations), so his mom went instead (he would have lost a lot of money).  I was a little worried, but, oh well, the more the merrier.  Never again will I go away with this woman for a long period of time.  She talked and talked and repeated herself NONSTOP!  I told this story a few weeks back.  She was rude, inappropriate and embarrassing.  She kept making very dirty jokes, like we were all peers (huge age difference).  I honestly think she has a mental disorder that blocks out any social decencies.  She pointed out the most OBVIOUS things to everyone!  "Did you know the ship still sails at night?" (direct quote, this was her first time on a cruise, second for me, and this was said AT 12:30 AM!).  She kept on whining about how DH was texting me and not her.  She got pissy when I didn't like the lobster.  She insisted on waking me up day after day by turning on every light there was in the world.  If I were to talk to the opposite sex about the most innocent thing (like the weather), she would tell me, "I'm gonna tell DH you're flirting!"  Thankfully, he knows I only flirt with policemen and firemen, not Joe Schmoe.  Honestly, she was actually perfectly OK before we went on vacay together.  The entire trip I was grinding my teeth, not saying a word (only when absolutely necessary) for the sake of my DH.  I've concluded that that was probably more torture than anyone could stand.  No one should have to be with their MIL 24/7.  DH owes me big time.

I need about 5 million pages to accurately describe the negative feelings I have towards my ILs.  I guess the thing I hate the most is that my DH talks to his mother on almost a daily basis, for hours at a time.  This is because they are running a small side business together (which I WISH he would quit).  While I'm sure they aren't doing anything more than just discussing plans and such, I hate it.  We've even talked about having me be a part of it, but I feel like MIL thinks I'm stupid as it is, and wouldn't do anything right anyway (despite the fact I have two advanced degrees, but whatever, I'm an idiot in her eyes).  Besides, I already have a job, and don't really want to quit it to do something like work with my ILs.  Who am I kidding?  I'd actually rather stick hot pokers in my eyes than work anywhere near my MIL.  I know this is confusing, but we actually live 3000 miles away from the ILs right now because my DH has another job.  We've lived that way for the 4 years that we've been married.  I have loved the distance, only having to put up with them for a few weeks at a time over the last several years.  Then, last summer we decided to try to have children and got pregnant in the fall.  Guess what happened?  DH got this "fabulous" job in the state where the ILs live, and I'm 6 months pregnant!  He wants to take it because he could be closer to mommy dearest, and the family business, as well as getting another job in his field.  I do not want to move there, since I know they will take over our lives, but what choice do I have?  I feel like DH trapped me and lied to me, because he knows I don't have much choice, and I don't have any family to run home to.  Also, I don't want to leave my doctors and such before the baby is at least a few months old.  I just feel almost desperate about my situation, as it will be HARD to raise a baby alone, even though I'm seriously considering it.  And, please don't anybody tell me it's not that bad.  Imagine if you had the luxury of living thousands of miles away from your MIL, and then had to move, while pregnant, to have your controlling witch of a MIL stand over you as you learn the ropes as a new mom.

Worst gift:  When DH and I got married, the ILs threw a shower for me.  I got fairly nice gifts from most of the family, but MIL's gifts were something special.  They included a set of sheets so old that the plastic wrap had turned yellow and cracked, four used plastic tumblers that I'd seen in her cabinet, and a couple of cheap metal cake pans so that I could make a double-layered cake if I wanted to.  One pan was round and the other one was square.  I noticed later that she fed her dogs in the same type of metal cake pans.  Guess how my relationship to her went during the next 30 years that I was married to her DS?
