frequent fry her - Persephone Frequent Fry Her TM - Persephone, 1 of 4 needed /Posted: 27-FEB-08
I knew that DH's relationship with MIL was strained, but we had only been dating 11 months and I hadn't heard much about it.  He's a very private person and didn't like talking about it to anyone.  I had no idea how vicious she was.  We'd been together 11 months when I got a phone call at around midnight.  MIL has caller ID block on her phone, so anytime DH called me from his house, it would come up as "restricted".  I couldn't call him back because it was so late and I didn't want to wake the whole house, so I waited until I was at work the next morning and called him to see if everything was okay.  He said it was fine, and I told him I had gotten a hang up call.  We said good-bye.  Next thing I know, I got a call from MIL.  She was crying and hysterical.  She said she swore she didn't call me.  I came to find out that anytime they fought (usually because she wanted money), she would tell him that she was going to call me and tell me what a horrible person he was.  He was worried that I would believe her, so this bothered him, obviously.  Apparently, she had gone so far as to call my number, change her mind, and hang up.  Long story short, I ended up having to leave work and go to pick up DH from his mother's house (he still lived there because of her manipulation and guilt trips regarding "needing" his money, even though his dad made six figures) and take him to a hotel.  He didn't have his own car because of her, as well.  She had called the cops on him because she was so afraid (yeah, right) and they were forcing him to leave.  It was payday at his job, and he called up there just in the nick of time - she had already tried to call there to pick up his check without him knowing about it.  DH ended up staying with my family for two weeks while he looked for an apartment.  Within six months he had his own apartment, his own car, and was much, much happier, obviously.  The calls didn't stop from her, though.  She kept calling, and DH asked me, as a favor, to not answer, so I didn't.  I was left with the pleasure of her voicemails.  She threatened me, telling me she was going to call my parents (hello, I was 22) and tell them how "disrespectful" I am; that she knows they're good Christian people who wouldn't appreciate me treating her like this, on and on.  The last straw came when she called me at 8:00 on a Saturday morning and woke me up.  I called the phone company immediately and changed my phone number.  She didn't have it again until after DH and I were married, four years later.

MY MIL, oh my, I can't stand her!!!  It has been over a year since she has seen her GC.  I called her up, for my DH's sake, and asked if we could come over for the weekend.  She told me that she was busy and she would call me when she had time.  I told my DH, and he said to just leave her alone.  She had the nerve to show up to his job and tell him how much she missed the kids.  She asked if they could come over, etc.  Did she think I did not tell him what she said when she was on the phone with me?

Worst gift:  Last Xmas, my FMIL sent us the weirdest gifts ever.  She sent my DF cartoon character t-shirts, cheap gloves, and a motorcycle shaped wind chime that didn't even work.  I received 2 of the ugliest shirts in creation that were 4 sizes too big.  Thanks!  I was absolutely shocked at the cr@p they sent us.  It felt like the ILs went to a thrift store, dumped a bunch of stuff into a box and mailed it.  DF felt the same way.  At first thought, it was his dad who did all the shopping.  Next year, I am just going tell her to buy me socks.  I would rather have something useful, even if they are cheap and we can afford them.  Thanks future ILs!
