When my first child was only three months old, I found out that I was pregnant with my second child.  I was shocked, scared and confused.  DH and I had only been married for less than two years.  We lived in a one bedroom house, and could barely afford that.  So, needless to say, the family was not too thrilled with the idea of us having another.  We waited four months to tell anyone.  I had the brilliant idea of telling SMIL and FIL myself, when I was there visiting with my baby.  MIL just looked at me and said, "I thought you looked like you were gaining weight, instead of losing."  Then, if that was not enough, she said, "There goes my son's chance at being a doctor."  Hello?  DH has never wanted to be a doctor.  SMIL and FIL have him painted as some genius, who just needs a few years of medical school and he will be Marcus Welby.  Well, DH is a cop, and that is what he is happy doing.

MIL would ask what movie we were seeing, then say wistfully, "Oh, I've been wanting to see that movie, but it won't be out on video for months!"  Then, of course, DH would feel that he had to invite her along.  She always got a huge tub of popcorn, more than she could possibly eat, but never offered us any.  If I got candy, she'd grab the box and help herself, without asking.  All during the movie, she talked loudly, often causing others to turn around and glare.  I wish they had told her to shut up.  Her reaction would have been more entertaining, and probably more violent than the movie.  She always had to visit the rest-room, thanks to the extra-large soft drink.  On her return, she'd loudly tell me how dirty everything was.  She would later tell her friends how we insisted that she come to the movies with us, and how terrible the picture was!  It seems funny to remember now, but . . .
