I have dimples.  I've had them my entire life.  They are not huge ones, but when I smile, they are very obvious.  Well, I happened to marry a man who has a sister with HUGE dimples, like Shirley Temple.  Anyway, I receive a lot of compliments on my dimples, and have since I was a kid.  But, one day, a few months after I got engaged, I was talking with FMIL about family traits.  She said something about dimples, and how her DD is the only person in the family with dimples.  I said, "Well, I have them, too."  MIL said, "You do?  I didn't know that."  I got irritated, because my dimples are just as large as her DD's.  They just only appear when I smile.  So, I smiled for her.  She just looked at me and said, "Those don't count."  I asked why, and she said, "If they aren't there all the time, they are just mistakes."  Whatever that means.  I also have naturally auburn hair, very obviously, but my MIL has had the delusion that her DD has "red" hair.  Maybe she did when she was five, but it is now dirty blond.  I see no red in her hair.  Well, MIL will not admit that I have auburn hair.  She says that it is brown, and will absolutely deny the possibility that there is red in it.  I guess if she admits that about me, she will have to realize she is the mother of . . .

Worst gift:  This happened over 12 years ago, but it still burns a hole in my stomach.  Perhaps writing the story out here will help me let it go.  Right before our 10th anniversary, DH and I split up.  He went home to live with MIL.  She claimed to support our marriage and want us to work it out.  However, she gave him a book with a title that was something like, "How to Get All the Assets in Your Divorce."  Even with her "support", we worked it out and have been together for over 22 years.
